Never mind Christmas, never mind New Year’s Day, never mind even Earth Day! The big day in 2011, the one you do NOT WANT TO MISS is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!
What’s that you say? You’ve never heard of National PB&J Day? We’ll withhold a snobby harumph and eye roll; the PB&J Campaign strives to educate and persuade with gentle humor and compelling data, that you can help the environment any time you pack a lunch (or make dinner, order off a takeout menu, fix breakfast…) and save land and water, cut pollution, and help fight global warming by simply eating America’s favorite sandwich, or almost any other plant-based meal for that matter.
Last year, when we were focusing on getting ready for Earth Day (so passé), National PB&J Day sort of popped out of nowhere as a big success. Check out this fun Atlantic blog post by James McWilliams about us that marked the occasion.
We’re not sure who got National PB&J Day on the calendar. We’ve heard rumors that the National Peanut Board had something to do with it (for the record, the PB&J Campaign has no direct connection to the Peanut Board and receives no funding from it), but we’ve seen fit to appropriate it as a fabulous occasion to spread the word about the good each one of us can accomplish one meal at a time!
If you’ve got a blog or are a reporter – get in touch with us (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll be happy to help you tell the world about it. If you’d like to write a letter to the editor to your local paper, we’ll give you a hand with that too. Want to celebrate by handing out PB&Js with information about how utterly awesome they are? We can help with that too.
